Four tracks – one from each of Nick’s Self Possessed back catalogue – which tell fictitious stories about real historical figures.

The Loneliest Ghost In Pere Lachaise, taken from his 2005 Choice Music Prize-nominated Running Dog (“A poet’s soulful challenge to the fates…tidily precise and perfect” – Evening Herald), has as its protragonist the only ghost in that famous Parisian graveyard who doesn’t get invited to the glamorous spectral cocktail parties where “Oscar lusts after the young Lizard King” and “Lesseps bores poor Hausmann with his wretched canals”.

Arthur Ashe, from the first Alien Envoy album Nine Lives (“Warmth and richness… a lovely experience” – Sunday Business Post) re-imagines the courage of the first black man to make a mark in the world of lawn tennis from the perspective of an otherwise conventional Irish civil servant and Class 3 Dublin Leagues player.

Sam And Andre, from the recently-released second Alien Envoy Loads (“Stunning…9/10” – Hot Press), takes as its starting point the startling but true fact that the 12-year-old Andre the Giant was given a lift to school every day by Samuel Beckett.

And The Night Cesare Lombroso Met The Elephant Man, from Nick’s first solo album Between Trapezes (“Album of the decade, let alone the year…(12/12)” – Hot Press), relates a completely fictitious encounter between the famous Italian phrenologist – who believed that one could determine innate criminality by examining the ridges of the skull – and his exact contemporary, John Merrick.
